A nun and a marine are marooned on a Pacific island
during World War II, and what results is a wonderful romantic comedy.
While the scenario might lead one to suspect rather predictable
buffoonery, a look at the stars will tell you that’s not likely. Mitchum
and Kerr aren’t
slapstickers and the comedy of this film is well written and pleasantly
subtle. You won’t be rolling in the aisles, but rather, smiling
throughout with an occasional burst of laughter during one of the film’s
many unpredictable moments. The performances of both actors are right on
throughout the picture and the pace is well moderated by Huston
who co-wrote the film. Good dialogue, story and acting make this film one
to see.
