Bing as Father O'Malley, the character he first played in
1944's GOING MY WAY and reprised in the follow-up film THE BELLS OF SAINT MARY'S
(1945) with Ingrid Bergman,
Rhys Williams and Henry
Travers. Crosby was nominated for Best Actor Oscars for both films
(He won in 1944 and GOING MY WAY was named Best Picture
of the year.) making him the first actor in Academy history ever to have
been nominated twice for playing the same character.
A still from Irving Berlin's WHITE CHRISTMAS (1954),
a holiday classic with Vera-Ellen,
Danny Kaye, and Rosemary Clooney. Incidentally it is often mis-stated that Bing sang the song he made famous, "White
Christmas," for the first time in this film. However, the film in
which the song was first featured was actually HOLIDAY INN (1942)
in which Bing co-starred with Fred Astaire.
