Universal previewed "Show Boat" on Saturday night, and like the stage play, it is now one of the screen's greatest musicals … It was grand seeing "Show Boat" again, it had all the warmth of meeting an old friend … Helen Morgan proves definitely that she should be in pictures … and Paul Robeson's rendition of "Old Man River" is the greatest singing ever heard on the screen. I spoke to Oscar Hammerstein and Jerome Kern, who did both the stage and screen plays, after the preview … Said Hammerstein: "I'm more that satisfied. I like it in the movies more than I did on the stage."
